School Challenge Quest 2023 – Pupils Present Their Research
Pupils from St Benedict's Junior School shared their passion for a range of interesting topics in this term’s School Challenge Quest (SCQ) which took place on Monday, 20th November.
The SCQ challenge provides a very valuable introduction to independent research, as well as experience of presenting to an audience, promoting intellectual curiosity and confidence.
For several weeks, four pupils from Years 5 and 6 had been working hard researching their chosen subjects, ready for their presentations.
Their hard work paid off, as we clearly saw evidence in their presentations with extensive research, including carefully chosen video clips and surveys, all delivered with great enthusiasm and passion.
This term’s presenters and their chosen subjects were:
Tazmin (Year 5): Why are the Harry Potter books so popular?
Uma (Year 6): Does gender affect the relationship between twins?
Diego (Year 6): Sharks - menacing predator or misunderstood mammal?
George (Year 6): Blood on our hands - the cost of cobalt mining
The students presented to an external adjudicator; Mrs Clemency Stimpfig, our previous Head of Foreign Languages at Junior School, and were awarded
Each student performed extremely well, with Tazmin and Uma receiving silver awards, Diego a gold award and George receiving a platinum award.
Speaking about their experience of the Challenge, George said "I love taking part in SCQ as I find out new things about lots of different topics, and then I like to make people aware of them, because they might not know about some of the things going on in the world"
Uma said, "It’s good for teaching you skills that you need in later life, like planning your presentation, doing research and then speaking to other people about it."
