The very first St Benedict’s Careers Networking Afternoon for pupils in Year 7 and 8 (Form 3 and Lower 4th) took place on Monday 25th June.

Years 7 and 8 work the room, talking to a range of professionals

Thirty visiting professionals – including five alumni - generously gave their time to talk to boys and girls aged 11 to 13.

We were fortunate to have representatives from a wide range of professions, ready to give a vivid snapshot of their work. These included doctors, engineers, a BBC journalist, PR executive, lawyers, construction specialist, quantity surveyor, media and marketing specialists, bankers and financiers, and  entrepreneurs.  All were from the wider St Benedict’s community: parents, alumni and friends of the school. Recent old boys and old girls provided a particularly important insight into the world of work, providing a bridge between school and future employment.

The format was structured but informal: each professional spent 6 minutes with each group of 10 pupils, introducing and answering questions about their job before moving on to the next table.
