A trip to Tate Britain
The Lower 5th Fine Art class studied Henry Moore's sculptures at Tate Britain.
The Lower 5th (Year 10) Fine Art class went to the Tate Britain, to study sculptures inspired by natural forms. Miss Linton discussed Henry Moore's ‘Recumbent Figure’, ‘Reclining Figure’ and ‘Helmet Head No.4’ with us. We learnt about how they were made and their context, along with analysing their form. We chose one of these three to sketch from different angles and to annotate with our thoughts. We then explored the rest of the collection using our knowledge and understanding to explore other sculptures. This will help us in our project to create our own sculptures based on natural forms.
It was great to get out of the classroom and work in the gallery, with sculptures physically in front of us. The gallery provided a very peaceful and immersive setting for us to draw. It was a valuable experience to work from the actual sculptures and be inspired by such impressive work.
