Lower 6th, Lower 5th & Middle School Prize Giving 2022

In his address, the Headmaster outlined the many events and achievements of the year. Highlighting St Benedict's 120th anniversary, he referred to the school's motto: "A minimis incipe - 'from the smallest beginnings' – is a reminder that all great things begin with small steps. It has been our school’s guiding philosophy for 120 years. This powerful idea surely goes to the heart of what education is about: potential. The potential for growth, discovery and achievement at every stage of our lives. Education is a rich and joyful journey – from the very special early years, through to senior school education, building confident knowledge, always allowing the freedom to explore what particularly inspires us at any stage." 

Professor Modarai spoke about his time at St Benedict’s:

“I came to St Benedict’s as a wide-eyed boy from Iran in 1988. It was a school of inclusivity and diversity, and I can see that the same is true here today. You know, I do remember sitting where all of you are, at your stage, dreaming of being a surgeon. That is always what I’d wanted to do, and St Benedict’s gave me the tools to start on that journey, and to became one of the youngest professors of vascular surgery.”

He continued by referring to the Headmaster’s speech: “The values Mr Johnson talked about are the same values as when I was here: academic excellence, leadership, resilience (and you will need these qualities), encouraging integrity, kindness, and compassion. St Benedict’s really does provide a holistic education.”

The evening began with a welcome from the Head Boy, Robert J, and Head Girl,Natalia M. The opening prayer was led by the Deputy Head Girl, Alice J, and Deputy Head Boy, Arhat T.

This was followed by a performance of Khachaturian’s Trio (3^rd movement), played by Arthur H (piano), Rory J (clarinet) and Helena R (violin).
