The St Benedict's Carol Service

The St Benedict’s School Carol Service took place on the evening of Monday 9th December, and was attended by parents, alumni, governors, staff and pupils.

The Consort Choir, directed by Mr Eastwood, sang a wide range of traditional and contemporary Christmas music, interspersed with readings and congregational carols. Form 3 (Year 7) made an excellent contribution too, with their performance of The Star Carol, by John Rutter.

The service began with My Lord has come by Will Todd, sung by the Consort Choir from the back of the Abbey Church. O come, O come, Emmanuel was followed by the rich harmonies of Harold Darke’s In the Bleak Midwinter (soloist: Harry Lubkowski), David Willcock’s sprightly arrangement of the Sussex Carol, Handel’s And the Glory of the Lord, from The Messiah and Philip Stopford’s sublime setting of Lully, Lulla (soloist: George Majcherczyk-Olczak).

Mince pies, mulled wine and a retiring collection for the Catholic Children’s Society and HCPT brought the evening to a close.
