Emmaus Schools' Netball Tournament
St Benedict’s hosted the first Emmaus Schools Partnership Netball Tournament on Thursday 20th January, welcoming U12 and U13 teams from Cardinal Wiseman, Sacred Heart High School and St Augustine’s Priory.
The competition was for netball players in Years 7 and 8 from the Emmaus Partnership schools – St Benedict’s, Cardinal Wiseman, Sacred Heart High School and St Augustine’s.
Mr O'Hara, Acting Head of Girls' Games and Deputy Director of Sport, writes:
“The first sporting event since the formation of the Emmaus partnership was an Under 12 and Under 13 Netball tournament hosted by St Benedict’s at the Perivale playing fields. Around eighty girls from St Benedict’s, Sacred Heart High School, The Cardinal Wiseman School and St Augustine’s took place in the tournament, which was one of the first opportunities for players in both year groups to represent their school at netball, given the cancellation of last season.
While the competitive nature of fixtures was ever present, what was equally notable was the spirit in which the games were played in, and how all pupils involved conducted themselves throughout."

"The tournament was fast-paced and action-packed, with four matches being run concurrently and just a short break in between matches, meaning rotating players was essential. While the competitive nature of fixtures was ever present, what was equally notable was the spirit in which the games were played in, and how all pupils involved conducted themselves throughout.
“In the Under 12 tournament, Cardinal Wiseman placed fourth, St Augustine’s third, Sacred Heart High second and St Benedict’s first. In the Under 13 event, St Benedict’s B’s, who were a last-minute replacement for St Augustine’s B’s, placed fourth, Cardinal Wiseman third, Sacred Heart High second with St Benedict’s A’s running out the winners. This meant that overall, St Benedict’s were crowned champions and got to take home the Emmaus trophy.
“Congratulations to all St Benedict’s pupils involved and a particular mention to Lucy M and to Lily Y who were voted St Benedict’s Player of the Tournament for their respective year groups.
“We would like to extend a massive thank you to all pupils and staff members who helped make this debut Emmaus sport event so special, and we look forward to more competitions in the future.”
The Emmaus Catholic Schools Partnership has forged strong links between St Benedict’s, Sacred Heart School Hammersmith, Cardinal Wiseman School and St Augustine’s Priory. Launched in 2019, the partnership enables students from all four schools to meet up for debates, concerts, sports fixtures, lectures, conferences and fund-raising.
